In the dooryard fronting an old farm-house near the white-wash’d palings,
Stands the lilac-bush tall-growing with heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
With many a pointed blossom rising delicate, with the perfume strong I love,
With every leaf a miracle—and from this bush in the dooryard,
With delicate-color’d blossoms and heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
A sprig with its flower I break.
(From “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d” by Walt Whitman)

Almost summer, but the spring flowers are looking as pretty as ever.

Well, from my perspective, it is summer. School’s out and now I have some free time to go outside and do the things I love (or sit inside and do the other things I love). Though as I wrote about earlier, the mountains still have plenty of snow to get some skiing in. Skiing during summer break? What? I’m only a little bit excited.

Anyways, I do have more time now, which is certainly a nice break. Time to relax and let some stress off- it can be a bit overwhelming at times. I took the chance today to try to get some decent photos. My subject: flowers! Which happen to be a personal favorite of mine.

The photos are from the lilac bush in my yard, which has been blooming for nearly two months now and still looks just as beautiful. I don’t know how it’s survived the late snows this year, but either way, I’m happy it’s doing so well.

To everyone done with (or nearly done with) school, have a wonderful beginning to the summer!
